Acceptable Use & Copyright

Subtitle files are usually part of a copyrighted work. By uploading a file you confirm that you own it, that you have permission from whoever does, or that your use is otherwise lawful where you are.

We do not review uploads and we cannot tell whether you hold those rights. That responsibility stays with you.

You keep every right you already had in the files you upload and in the results we produce from them. We do not claim ownership of either, and we do not use your subtitle content to train anything.

We process your files only to produce the result you asked for. Subtitle translation involves one more party: the translation provider you connect with your own API key. Running a translation sends the cue text from our servers to that provider — never the timing, the cue numbering or the styling, which are rebuilt here from your original file. That provider's handling of the text is governed by their terms, not ours.

• Upload content you have no right to process, or use Subtools to redistribute someone else's work.
• Upload anything that is unlawful where you are, or that depicts the sexual abuse of children. We report that to the authorities.
• Use the service to store or transfer files that are not subtitles. Only subtitle formats are accepted, and it is not a file host.
• Attempt to reach another account's files or jobs, probe the service for weaknesses without permission, or work around the points system.
• Automate uploads at a rate that degrades the service for other people, or resell access to it.

If you believe something processed through Subtools infringes your copyright, tell us through the contact form and include:

• What the work is, and enough detail to identify it.
• What specifically you believe is infringing.
• How to reach you.
• A statement that you are the rights holder or authorised to act for them, and that what you have told us is accurate.

Files are private to the account that uploaded them and are not publicly listed or searchable, so there is usually nothing public to take down. Where a report is substantiated we remove the material and may suspend the account. We will tell the account holder what was removed and why, unless we are legally prevented from doing so.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks this policy. Where the breach is not deliberate we will normally ask you to stop first.

If we close an account for a breach, unspent purchased points are refunded under the Refund Policy. Closing an account is not a way for us to keep money for points you never used.
